Susen's Story
Susen Herold was awarded a Chemical Engineering degree (B.S.Ch.E) from ASU in 1982, but don’t let her technical background fool you! She is a people person, and loves writing, which is why she transitioned into a career in documentation and project management a few years after getting her engineering degree.
After nearly 30 years in high technology (including 20 years at Hewlett-Packard Company), Susen started helping her son and his high school friends with everything related to the college application process—researching best-fit schools and careers, arranging information interviews with professionals, completing college applications, writing essays, and much more—and got hooked on helping the kids. It was time for another career change!
Susen transitioned out of her engineering project/program management position at Hewlett-Packard and enrolled in the highly-regarded College Counseling Certificate program at UCSD Extension. She completed the program and obtained her Certificate in College Counseling in 2014.
What really makes Susen’s day is helping students navigate through the many decisions they must make as they prepare for college! Susen takes a personalized approach to each student—one size does not fit all. Each student is unique and the most important thing a counselor can do is to help each student make the choices that are right for them as individuals. It is a pleasure for Susen to learn each student’s dreams and aspirations, and to help them onto the path of achieving them.
Susen is a member of the Western Association for College Admission Counseling.
